Advanced seeding systems for enhanced erosion and weed control in broadacre cropping
We have completed our first year of trials, some in NSW and others in SA. The research has proved that the concept of using seed singulation or precision planting on narrow row crops is technically feasible, although there is varying impact on plant establishment. The trials indicated there is likely to be greater benefits in precision planting crops such as canola and some pulses, due to their regular seed shape and indeterminate flowering pattern. More uniform spacing of these plants within the row can see biomass and yield increase as each plant received equal access to light, moisture and nutrients.
More trials this year with regular updates, now we have most teething problems resolved (we hope).
